Highlighting WorkFit’s Memorable Moments

Highlighting WorkFit’s Memorable Moments

As we prepare to close out Phase 1 of the WorkFit Campaign, our team has spent some time reflecting over the past 20 months to identify and acknowledge key events which have been critical in the evolution and success of the project.

Hosting Public Workshops Brings Like-Minded Practitioners Together

Our public workshops drew participants from a diverse range of activists in the youth employability space. Each participant’s introduction captured a different aspect or approach to how they were developing work-readiness practices. Some examples of these practices included using sports teams, preparing interventions at TVET colleges and providing career advice.

HR Forum Presentation Leads to Epiphany

We were invited to present the WorkFit ToolKit at a Forum for Human

Resources practitioners in Port Elizabeth. The event drew a wide range of people, higher and private education providers, recruitment agencies, work readiness practitioners and HR professionals. We started off the event by putting people into groups and introducing themselves to each other. Overheard during this activity was a university lecturer. She had always thought that criticism about the lack of work readiness in graduates was unfounded until her department took on interns themselves. She then understood how poorly graduates were prepared for the world of work which motivated further engagement with WorkFit.

Meeting the Minister of Education

WorkFit attended the National Skills Conference in March 2019. During this prestigious conference we had the opportunity to engage with the delegates as both an exhibitor and a delegate. It was a wonderful event, filled with interested delegates always keen to learn more about the WorkFit Campaign. Among the more noteworthy visitors to the WorkFit stand was Minister Pandor, who was warmly greeted by Stephanie and Andile of the WorkFit team. We like to think that this visit made quite an impact on the Minister, as her opening address of the conference specifically mentioned the importance of work readiness to ease the transition from education into the workplace.

Watch this space for more reflection on WorkFit Phase1 and get ready for Phase 2 launching 29 August!
